I started volunteering at Miami Dade Animal Services (MDAs) in July 2015, where I was able to obtain small animal experience. My responsibilities included walking and bathing of dogs. I also frequently brought dogs to the meeting rooms where potential adopters got to know them. This volunteer experience was the foundation of my animal care career; it was the first time I interacted with animals in a professional setting.

After starting at FIU, I kept volunteering with MDAs. The FIU Pre-Veterinary Society frequently collaborates with the Community Action Targeted Trapping Initiative (CATTI) event hosted by Miami Dade Animal Services. This program establishes teams of Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), where the members receive assistance with traps, vaccines, donated food, and free spay and neuter services. As a volunteer at this event, I helped the veterinary team by monitoring the patients carefully before and after surgery. This event is a way of raising awareness about the overpopulation of free-roaming cats.

Besides collaborating with CATTI events, the FIU Pre-Veterinary Society helped at the DOGGI Spay and Neuter event hosted by Miami Dade Animal Services. As a volunteer at this high volume of dog's spay and neuter event, I helped the veterinary team by monitoring the patients carefully before and after surgery. This event was an opportunity to help reduce the overpopulation of dogs while working alongside excellent doctors and volunteers.
