Global Learning Courses
Oceanography
During this course, I learned about Geological and Physical Oceanography. I studied the structures of the ocean floor and the properties of different types of sediments deposited on the ocean ground. I also reviewed the formation of tides, waves, and ocean currents. Further, I learned about the marine ecosystem and the diverse ocean life. I expanded my knowledge about ocean stewardship, and it's future, as well as how climate change is affecting the oceanic environment.
I created this PowerPoint presentation as part of a required project about a current oceanic issue. I did this presentation in the form of a children's story.
Intercultural Communications
While taking this course, I learned about the unique relationship between communication and culture. Through movies, articles, and stories, I studied what happens when people from different cultures come together to share ideas and information. During this class, I learned to appreciate the differences and similarities between the diverse cultures of the world. After completing this course, I was able to determine when cultural issues are influencing communication. Most importantly, I understood the role of communication in intercultural adaptation.
Sociology
Sociology was my favorite Global Learning course. Throughout the class, I debated with fellow students about many issues facing society today, forcing me to examine my life and social experiences. Like never before, I explored topics such as race, class, gender, sexuality, religion, education, health care, crime, violence, media, and globalization. This course helped me become a better critical thinker and problem solver, which prepared me for my future career.
Geography
"In the teaching of geography and history, a sympathetic understanding (should) be fostered for the characteristics of the different peoples of the world, especially for those who we are in the habit of describing as primitive" - Albert Einstein
